Given that organised crime groups are responsible for a rising share of financial crime, investigators looking into money laundering and other financial crimes must deal with a growing level of complexity. An effective technique to handle this complexity is to conduct investigations utilising open-source intelligence (OSINT). Arguably, the uses for OSINT are practically endless. It is essential for financial institutions’ Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes as well as more comprehensive risk management.
For this workshop participants will understand what an Anti-Monty Laundering investigation is, what triggers it, and how OSINT can be used to enhance the investigation. It will also examine suspicious activity reports (SARs) and how OSINT can be addressed within those reports.
